What Are MCTs?

what-are-MCTs

The right types of dietary fats are essential to a healthy body. Triglycerides are the most commonly consumed fats (“triglyceride” simply means three fat molecules joined together). Dietary fats are based on a backbone of carbon chains. Long fat chains have up to 21 carbons; while medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) have only 6 to 10.

MCTs in Coconut Oil Supplements

MCTs are much easier for your body to digest and absorb than long-chain fats, such as those found in meat and dairy. Once MCT’s are consumed in sufficient quantity, as in Fuel For Thought®, they quickly increase the ketone supply available to your brain. Unlike longer chain fats, MCTs are not stored by the body as fat. The MCTs contained in Fuel For Thought® are transported to the liver, which always converts them into ketones, providing a preferred additional energy source for the brain.

The great news about Fuel For Thought® is that its organic coconut oil is concentrated further by the addition of more MCTs — making it the most potent brain-boosting, ketone-increasing fortified coconut oil on the market.  For more information about how to raise ketone levels with coconut oil and MCTs, check out part V of our interview with Dr. Theodore B.
