What Are MCTs?
The right types of dietary fats are essential to a healthy body. Triglycerides are the most commonly consumed fats (“triglyceride” simply means three fat molecules joined together). Dietary fats are based on a backbone of carbon chains. Long fat chains have up to 21 carbons; while medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) have only 6 to 10.
MCTs are much easier for your body to digest and absorb than long-chain fats, such as those found in meat and dairy. Once MCT’s are consumed in sufficient quantity, as in Fuel For Thought®, they quickly increase the ketone supply available to your brain. Unlike longer chain fats, MCTs are not stored by the body as fat.
